Abstract
Die Community Oper Superheldennormalos ist ein Pilotprojekt der Kinderoper Köln, das die partizipative Entwicklung einer Musiktheaterproduktion für junges Publikum in allen Entstehungsphasen erprobte. Von der Themenfindung über Libretto und Komposition bis hin zu Proben und Aufführung waren Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von acht bis neunzehn Jahren beteiligt. In Zusammenarbeit mit Schulen, einem Jugendzentrum, der Rheinischen Musikschule und dem Comedia Theater Köln entstand in knapp zwei Jahren eine 75-minütige Oper, deren Uraufführung 2025 in Köln stattfand. Im Zentrum standen Themen wie Identität, Körperbilder und psychische Gesundheit sowie kollektive künstlerische Entscheidungsprozesse. Der Beitrag beleuchtet die methodischen Ansätze der Libretto- und Kompositionsworkshops, Herausforderungen der Verzahnung individueller Beiträge und die Rolle der Workshopleitung zwischen Freiheit und Struktur. Abschließend werden Erfahrungen der Beteiligten sowie Publikums- und Pressereaktionen reflektiert, die Fragen nach Partizipation, Autorschaft und ästhetischer Relevanz im Kinder- und Jugendmusiktheater aufwerfen.
The community opera Superheldennormalos is a pilot project of the Cologne Children's Opera that tested the creation of a music theater production for young audiences through participatory processes in all its development phases. Children and young people aged eight to nineteen were involved, from theme selection to libretto and composition to rehearsals and performance. In collaboration with schools, a youth centre, the Rheinische Musikschule, and the Comedia Theater Köln, a 75-minutes opera was created within just two years, its premiere took place in Cologne in 2025. The work fosters topics like identity, self perception, and mental health, as well as collective artistic decision-making processes. This article examines the methodological approaches of libretto and composition workshops, the challenges of giving space to individual contributions within the group, and the role of the workshop leader between freedom and structure. The final analysis of the process, by taking in consideration the experiences of the participants as well as audience and press reactions, raises questions of participation, authorship, and aesthetic relevance in children's and youth music theater.
